Here you will find the daily activities for English III.  If you have any absences or missed something during class, please check to see what you missed.  Most of the activities can be done at home, so please complete them before the next notebook check.  If it is something that you have to talk to me or a classmate about, please know exactly what it is when you ask.

Your Daily Dose of Wisdom for today was "How helpless we are, like netted birds, when we are caught by desire."  Discuss a recent encounter where you desired something (or someone) and were helpless to fight against it.  Respond in 2-3 sentences.

Your Voice Lesson is in diction:  Consider (and record) the statement "As I watched, the sun broke weakly through, brightened the rich red of the fawns, and kindled their white spots."  Answer the following: 

1.  What kind of flame does "kindled" imply?  How does this verb suit the purpose of the sentence?  

2. Would the sentence be strengthened or weakened by changing "the sun broke weakly through" to "the sun burst through?"  Explain the effect this change would have on the use of the verb kindled.

1.  By using the word "antidote," what does the author imply about the inability to feel for another?

English III, we had our Daily Dose of wisdom today, which is below.  Please respond to it before the next notebook check.  We completed any work from last week.  We started defining our first week of vocabulary, which is below.  Finally, we started using Phonetic Punctuation to practice recognizing and paying attention to punctuation.  If you missed it, see how it works here and start practicing the process on your own.  We will be working with this throughout this week and next, and you will be expected to perform this process to me soon.

Your Daily Dose of Wisdom for today was "If you want the rainbow, put up with the rain."  How can you apply this to your life?  Respond in 2-3 sentences.

Your Vocab Week #1 Words are:  Adversity, Demoralize, Eccentricity, Evoke, Introspection, Malapropism, Meander, Paramour, Phonetic, and Snark.  Define these words in your journal entry for today.  On a separate sheet of paper, use each word in a sentence.  This is due by Friday.  You will be evaluated next Tuesday

English III, we had our Daily Dose of Wisdom today, which is below.  Please respond to it before the next notebook check.  We completed any remaining "administrative" things, and then we had our first TGIP (Thank God It's Poetry) day. 

Your Daily Dose of Wisdom for today was "Look at the mark, not at the arrow."  What is your impression of this statement?  Respond in 2-3 sentences.

Your poem for TGIP was Robert Burns "Red, Red Rose."  If you missed it, read the poem here.  Please tell me what emotions were evoked in 2-3 sentences.  Then, watch this video (start at about a 0:42) and tell me how hearing the poem read as it should be, did or did not change how the piece made you feel.  Again, only 2-3 sentences are necessary.  This needs to be completed before the next notebook check.

English III, your syllabus is due by Wednesday.  You also need to respond to your "Daily Dose of Wisdom" before the first notebook check (I am planning this within the next two weeks).  Come to class prepared and try to have your notebook by next Wednesday.
